The 7th Armenian Internet Governance Forum has started

On November 10, the 7th Armenian Internet governance forum ArmIGF- 2022 started, organized by the Internet Governance Council’s interdepartmental group in cooperation with the RA Ministry of High-Tech Industry, Internet Society and Internet Society Armenia Chapter NGOs.

Avet Poghosyan, Deputy Minister of High-tech Industry of the RA, made a welcome speech at the opening of the conference. In his speech, the Deputy Minister emphasized the importance of the event, touched upon the problems of the industry and the work carried out by the Ministry to solve them.

He wished success to the participants of the conference and expressed confidence that tangible results will be recorded during the conference, which will contribute to progress in this area in Armenia.

The conference participants were also welcomed by Igor Mkrtumyan, Chairman of the Board of the Internet Society NGO, Danko Jevtović, Vice-Chair of the ICANN Board, Anja Gengo, Internet Governance and policy advisor at the IGF Secretariat, Vahan Hovsepyan, RIPE NCC External Relations Officer, Kristina Hakobyan, Board member of Internet Society NGO.

The speakers of the event presented their views on the development potential of the Internet in Armenia, broadband Internet, cyber security, media literacy and topics related to digital technologies.

Panel discussions followed.

At the panel discussion “Relocation of Foreign IT Companies to the RA, Challenges, Opportunities, Cooperation”, Deputy Minister of High-Tech Industry of the Republic of Armenia David Sahakyan spoke about the state policy aimed at developing the industry, programs aimed at supporting startups, as well as about the possibilities of registration, relocation and implementation of activities by citizens of other countries in the field of high technologies.

Arshak Kerobyan, head of the Digitalization department, also took part in the discussion on the topic “Information Management on the Internet, Legal Regulation”.

The main goal of the ArmIGF conference, which is being held for the 7th time, is to discuss and highlight current issues, challenges and development prospects related to Internet governance.
