Minister Robert Khachatryan received the State Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology of the Maldives Mohammed Shareef

On November 10, Minster of High-Tech Industry of the RA Robert Khachatryan received Mohammed Shareef, the State Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology of the Republic of Maldives, who was chairing the 7th Session of the Asia-Pacific Information Superhighway (APIS) Steering Committee of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (ESCAP) held in Yerevan.

Robert Khachatryan welcomed the guest, presented the directions of the Ministry’s activity and implemented programs, expressed hope that effective cooperation between the two countries will be formed in the near future.

Mohammed Shareef thanked for the reception, in his turn presented the specifics of the Maldivian economy and the sphere of activity of his Ministry. The State Minister noted that he is in Armenia for the first time and was impressed by the history and people of the country. He also underlined that the session held in Yerevan was organized at a very high level.

During the meeting, a number of issues related to the sector of telecommunications were discussed. Both sides presented the technological solutions used in their countries in this direction, shared experience related to communication channels, communication operators, Internet access, and a number of other topics. The issue of development of water-enabled technologies was also mentioned. Mohammed Shareef noted that he has met a lot of good technological teams in Armenia and would be happy if they participate in the hackathon on the topic “Maldives Ocean Hackathon 2023: Advancing Climate Solutions”, and present their ideas and technological solutions.

At the end of the meeting, a number of opportunities for cooperation in the fields of high technologies and telecommunications were outlined.

It should also be noted that the next session of the Asia-Pacific Information High Speed Channel (APIS) Coordinating Committee of the United Nations (UN) Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) will be held in the Maldives.
