Gevorg Mantashyan participated in the High-level Meeting of Landlocked Developing Countries

The Delegation of the Republic of Armenia participated in the High-level Meeting of Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) on addressing unique climate vulnerability within the 28th conference of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-28) held in the United Arab Emirates.

First Deputy Minister of High-Tech Industry of the RA Gevorg Mantashyan delivered a speech on behalf of the Armenian Delegation. He addressed the problem of climate change vulnerability, noting that among other global crises, it is another major factor impacting the socio-economic challenges of LLDCs.

“Armenia is a mountainous country with limited natural resources. Based on the analysis by the World Bank, Armenia is considered the fourth most at risk country in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia region when it comes to the impact of the climate change. In addressing the impact of the climate change a strong emphasize should be put on promoting circular and green economy production and consumption practicies as well as on a promoting digitalization and connectivity,” First Deputy Minister noted.

Gevorg Mantashyan stressed Armenia’s constant commitment on participating in global efforts to combat climate change, reminded that in 2021, the country declared the goal of reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent. Deputy Minister also added that Armenia stands ready to work with the UN and partner countries to find durable and sustainable solutions to mitigate climate change impact and accelerate sustainable development in LLDCs.

The UN Climate Change Conference is held annually and is the world’s only multilateral decision-making forum on climate change. It brings together the representatives of almost all countries to discuss the steps aimed at overcoming the climate crisis.
