Robert Khachatryan received Christine Weigand, UNICEF Representative to Armenia
On April 13, Robert Khachatryan, Minister of High-Tech Industry of the RA received a delegation headed by Christine Weigand, UNICEF Representative to Armenia.
Welcoming the guests, Robert Khachatryan emphasized the importance of the programs implemented with the support of the UN Children’s Fund, in particular the “Giga” initiative aimed at meeting digital needs.
The Minister noted that, having a strategic goal of promoting and developing high-tech and innovative sectors, assuming obligations to ensure progress in the field of digitalization, innovation and high-tech sectors in Armenia, the Ministry of High-Tech Industry of the RA is ready for close cooperation with the Fund.
Christine Weigand thanked for the reception and confirmed UNICEF’s readiness to cooperate in the field of protecting children online, the safe use of Internet resources, providing Internet access in schools, supporting tech startups and a number of other issues.
Minister Robert Khachatryan highly appreciated the programs constantly implemented by the UN Children’s Fund in Armenia aimed at supporting children affected by Azerbaijan’s aggression and displaced.
The meeting also discussed the importance of the “Giga” platform, jointly implemented by UNICEF and the International Telecommunication Union, as well as possible areas of cooperation within the framework of the latter related to online safety for children, STEM education and skills, as well as technical, non-formal, e-education and a number of other questions.
