Minister Robert Khachatryan addressed the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS 2023)
On March 14, Robert Khachatryan, the Minister of High-Tech Industry of the RA participated remotely and gave a speech at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS 2023) held in Geneva. The theme of this year’s summit was “WSIS Action Lines for Building Back Better and Accelerating the Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”.
In his speech, Minister Robert Khachatryan welcomed the organizers and participants of the summit and noted: “We highlight the role of international and regional cooperation to overcome the daily challenges in a rapidly developing and changing world.
In many areas, we face the same problems, which necessitates the continuous dialogue for finding common solutions. In this context, collaboration with UN and its different agencies, as well as with International Telecommunication Union significantly helps us exchange the best experience we have in different areas.
For the Government of the Republic of Armenia development of high-tech sector is a top priority for ensuring inclusive and sustainable development of the economy.
The Government of Armenia implements an open-door policy towards foreign investments. Armenia ranked the 47th place among 190 countries for its favorable business environment according to “Doing Business 2020” report. Moreover, the country ranked the 32nd in the Index of Economic Freedom by 2021.
Huge progress exists IT sector which is evidenced by the fact that a number of Armenian IT organizations have achieved great success in the international market and a series of foreign organizations have opened their offices in Armenia. Armenia offers myraid of benefits to commercial organizations and individual entrepreneurs operating in the IT sector. I am convinced we will see more tangible results of the RA government policies in the foreseeable future.
The implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals will undoubtedly ensure peace and prosperity for the people in the whole world”.
The annual World Summit on the Information Society Forum is a global multistakeholder platform facilitating the implementation of the WSIS Action Lines for advancing sustainable development.
The Summit was organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), UNESCO, UNDP and UNCTAD in close cooperation with other organizations of the UN system and ITU focal points.
WSIS provides an opportunity for information exchange, knowledge creation and sharing of best practices, while identifying emerging trends and fostering partnerships, taking into account the evolving Information and Knowledge Societies.
