RA Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan Receives Experts from WorldDAB Global Industry Forum on Digital Radio

On May 7, Minister of High-Tech Industry of the Republic of Armenia, Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, held a meeting with Lindsay Cornell, Chair of WorldDAB’s Technical Committee and Principal Systems Architect at BBC Digital, and William Jackson, Communications Manager at WorldDAB, to discuss the vision and optimal strategies for the introduction of digital radio in Armenia. The meeting was also attended by the General Director of the Television and Radio Broadcasting Network of Armenia (TRAN) CJSC.

The discussion focused on models for establishing digital radio broadcasting networks, with particular emphasis on DAB+ (Digital Audio Broadcasting Plus) systems. Topics included membership models, best international practices, policy approaches, and the provision of digital radio receivers for vehicles and the public. The parties also discussed market regulations, the implementation of emergency warning systems, airwave protection, especially the prevention of cross-border radio frequency interference, and other factors essential for the rapid development of a robust digital radio ecosystem in Armenia.

Agreements were reached on key areas of collaboration, along with defined next steps and joint objectives.

It is worth noting that, with the support of the Ministry of High-Tech Industry of the Republic of Armenia and the initiative of TRAN CJSC, a conference titled “The Prospects of Digital Radio in Armenia” was held on May 6–7. Leading experts from the international digital radio organization WorldDAB participated, contributing to discussions on the future and strategic vision for digital radio deployment in Armenia.
