RA MHTI Deputy Minister Gevorg Meliksetyan Highlights the Importance of the Conference “The Prospects of Digital Radio in Armenia”

On May 6, Deputy Minister of High-Tech Industry of the Republic of Armenia Gevorg Meliksetyan participated in and delivered a welcoming speech at the conference titled “The Prospects of Digital Radio in Armenia,” held on May 6–7 with the support of the Ministry of High-Tech Industry of the Republic of Armenia and the initiative of the Television and Radio Broadcasting Network of Armenia (TRAN) CJSC. Leading experts in the field were invited to the conference, including specialists from WorldDAB, the international organization dedicated to digital radio.

Welcoming the participants, including representatives of state and regulatory bodies, as well as radio companies, Gevorg Meliksetyan particularly emphasized the importance of the event. He noted that in today’s fast-evolving world, where technology is advancing rapidly, the conference lays the groundwork for transforming the future of radio broadcasting in the Republic of Armenia and moving it decisively toward the digital era. Referring to the international experts from WorldDAB participating in the conference, the Deputy Minister expressed confidence that their experience and knowledge would significantly contribute to a more effective transition to digital radio broadcasting in Armenia.

Narek Adamyan, Director of the Television and Radio Broadcasting Network of Armenia CJSC, also delivered a welcoming speech. He presented an overview of the current state of radio in Armenia, outlined existing challenges, and shared a vision for future development. He emphasized that digital radio provides a platform offering broader opportunities for society—from strengthening security systems to improve awareness and service quality.

Among the featured speakers at the conference were William Jackson, Communications Manager at WorldDAB, and Lindsay Cornell, Chair of WorldDAB’s Technical Committee and Principal Systems Architect at BBC Digital, who delivered presentations on the introduction of DAB+ digital radio and the technical standards of DAB+, respectively.

Digital radio is a modern format for broadcasting radio programs, designed to deliver high-quality and stable audio content. Unlike analog (FM/AM) radio, digital radio provides clear, noise-free sound and offers new technological capabilities.

One of the most widely adopted and effective standards for digital radio broadcasting is DAB+ (Digital Audio Broadcasting Plus), which offers numerous advantages.
