Mkhitar Hayrapetyan: Armenia Aspires to Become the Most Important Regional Technological Hub

RA Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan participated in the WCIT 2024/DigiTec World Congress press conference under the headline "THE POWER OF MIND: AI Beyond Limits, Within Ethics."

The Minister noted that in the last five years, Armenia has hosted the World Congress on Innovation and Technology for the second time, emphasizing the country's aspiration to become the most important regional technological hub. He highlighted that, thanks to joint efforts, Armenia has become a key focal point on the technological map. The Minister expressed his belief that, over the next three days, there will be opportunities to discover new possibilities and tools that AI offers to humanity and the technological world—changes that will impact our lives and the planet.

Hayrapetyan emphasized that WCIT will serve as a groundbreaking international platform for new discoveries and wished the Congress great success.

Sean Seah, Chairman of the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA), shared that he had pleasant memories from the 2019 Congress in Yerevan, noting that WITSA is organizing the Congress for the 28th time.

Seah pointed out that many countries are seriously considering the applicability of AI across various fields, creating significant competition. He stressed that AI can be used for the common good, to create more efficient systems, and emphasized the importance of holding such events under the auspices of governments, which makes digital platform cooperation even more valuable.

Alexander Yesayan, President of the Union of Advanced Technology Enterprises, appreciated the idea of holding the Congress in Armenia and highlighted the focus on artificial intelligence as the main topic.

Team Telecom Armenia General Director Hayk Yesayan also gave remarks.

WCIT 2024/DigiTec Executive Director Hayk Karapetyan expressed hope that discussions on AI and its applications across various fields—from education to space technologies—will be of interest to all attendees.

WCIT serves as a global platform highlighting the importance of enhancing the impact of information technology, investment, and solutions across regions and economies.

WCIT 2024/DigiTec will showcase Armenia's technological potential to key industry players, aiming to establish branches in the country, conduct academic research, and launch large commercial centers.
