Memorandum of Understanding signed between Armenia and India

On June 12-13, Gevorg Mantashyan, First Deputy Minister of High-Tech Industry of the RA, is on a working visit to Pune (India) to participate in the “Global Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) Summit”, held within the framework of the meeting of the “G20 Digital Economy Working Group”.

In the scope of the summit, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Ministry of High-Tech Industry of the Republic of Armenia and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of the Republic of India “On Cooperation in the Field of Sharing Successful Digital Solutions Implemented at Population Scale for Digital Transformation”.

The Memorandum was signed by Gevorg Mantashyan, the First Deputy Minister of High-Tech Industry of the RA, and Alkesh Kumar Sharma, the Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of the Republic of India.

By the signed document, the parties express their readiness to expand cooperation between the two countries in the areas of promoting institutional cooperation, a feasibility study, assessing modernization and implementing digital transformation solutions.

First Deputy Minister Gevorg Mantashyan made a speech at the summit, in which he specifically stated:

“Now we are discussing important digital public infrastructures and their relevance to the people who use them. We all live in a historical period when we participate in the creation of technologies, after some time, perhaps these technologies will create their own technologies and their own language. Here are countries that have both positive and negative experiences of the impact of artificial intelligence. And this is a good opportunity to build a coalition of countries to regulate technology, and I think it’s worth mentioning that yes, we want to regulate the use of technology, but not limit its development and growth.

I am impressed with how India is using technology to fight poverty and provide access to quality infrastructure. This is a good example of how we should work and what we should focus on. I sincerely hope that by joining our efforts, we will be able to create technologies that can improve the way of life of mankind.”

Within the framework of the summit, Gevorg Mantashyan will hold meetings with representatives of the public and private sectors of India, and discussions will be held between the participants from different states present at the event.

In the year of India’s G20 Presidency, the summit brought together G20 members, renowned experts from invited countries, international organizations, policy makers and practitioners working in the field of digital governance under one roof to share their experiences as well as embrace digital public infrastructure to improve the global digital economy. This is in line with the G20 theme “One Earth, One Family, One Future”.

The Summit will also host the Global DPI Exhibition, where G20 members and invited countries will showcase and demonstrate their population scale DPIs at stalls.
