International Day of “Girls in ICT” was celebrated this year under the theme “Digital Skills for Life”
On April 27, on the occasion of the International Girls in ICT Day, the event titled “Digital Skills in Life” was held, in which more than 60 employees of 35 museums and theaters of the country took part.
Avet Poghosyan, Deputy Minister of High-Tech Industry of RA attended the event and gave a speech. Welcoming the participants of the event, the Deputy Minister highlighted the importance of organizing an event aimed at increasing the involvement of women in the ICT sector and popularizing STEM education. Avet Poghosyan emphasized the fact that the participation of women in the ICT sector is quite high, over 40 percent, while in the world this figure is about 20 percent.
Board Member of the “Internet Community” NGO Kristina Hakobyan noted that “Girls in ICT” for the sixth time joins the International Day, setting the task to address local needs in order to expand the participation and professional abilities of women in the field of IT. This year the focus was on cultural institutions developing their capabilities in the digital environment.
The participants of the event were introduced to various tools and skills for managing pages on social and online platforms, the basics of digital security, and opportunities for cooperation with Wikimedia Armenia.
The event was organized by the “Internet Society Armenia Chapter” and the “Internet Society” NGOs.
International “Girls in ICT” Day was established by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and has been celebrated internationally since 2010 to encourage women’s participation, capacity building in ICT, STEM education.
