On September 30, the third meeting of the Public Council under the Minister of High-Tech Industry and Artificial Intelligence of the Republic of Armenia was held, bringing together companies operating in the AI sector, startups, as well as major international and local organizations operating in Armenia.
The meeting focused on the current vision for the development of Armenia’s national AI ecosystem and approaches to the development of a regulatory framework for artificial intelligence.
The participants also discussed computing resources, including the effective utilization of computing capacity acquired under the agreement signed between the Government of the Republic of Armenia and Firebird AI. Particular emphasis was placed on the development of computing infrastructure, attracting specialists and talent, supporting startups and research, protecting intellectual property, promoting regulatory innovation, and expanding the use of AI across the public sector.
The second key topic of the meeting was the preparation of a draft regulation on AI. It was noted that no initial draft has been prepared at this stage, with the aim of gathering proposals and observations from different stakeholders in the sector to help shape future regulatory approaches. The discussion covered the safe and responsible use of AI, the protection of citizens’ rights and accountability, as well as maintaining an enabling environment for innovation.
The meeting concluded with a summary of the proposals and observations raised by the participants, which will inform further work on the development and regulation of Armenia’s national AI ecosystem. Consultations with sector representatives, the private sector, startups, the research community, and other stakeholders will continue as the work progresses.
