Deputy Minister of High-Tech Industry and Artificial Intelligence of the Republic of Armenia Tatev Aslanyan participated in a discussion entitled “The Role of Education in Preserving Sustainable Heritage”, held as part of the 15th Advisory Forum of the Council of Europe Cultural Routes Programme.

In her remarks, the Deputy Minister addressed the impact of  AI on the fields of education and cultural heritage, emphasizing that AI can significantly expand access to cultural heritage, but should not replace critical thinking. She particularly highlighted the importance of presenting diverse, including conflicting, perspectives on history and cultural heritage.

Tatev Aslanyan stressed the importance of ensuring transparency in the use of AI tools, providing training for teachers, and fostering cooperation between the education, culture, and technology sectors.

The Deputy Minister also noted that responsibility for historical and cultural content generated through AI should be shared among four key stakeholders: technology companies, cultural institutions, the state, and the education system.

The discussion also addressed the development of artificial intelligence in Armenia. The Deputy Minister noted that an AI regulatory framework is currently being developed, with its initial application envisaged within the public sector. At the same time, international practices are being studied with the aim of developing a balanced approach tailored to Armenia’s specific circumstances.

Addressing the importance of developing digital and AI skills, Tatev Aslanyan emphasized that the introduction of new technologies should be accompanied by relevant training programmes to foster a culture in which AI is perceived as a tool and an assistant for making work processes more efficient.
